Murphysboro Mud Monster
Time to battle with Bigfoot. Will Megan get Paddy to believe that a white sasquatch sauntered into town during the 1970s? The answer may surprise you. This is part one of a huge two part special. See you on the other side.
There are proven animals out there that are spotted less times than Bigfoot. This episode's ex-cryptid is a perfect example of that. The Silver Back Chevrotain is one such creature, having only been seen once by western scientists once (in 1910). Seen skittering around Vietnam by locals this bizarre animal was often believed to be make believe. The size of a rabbit, it had a plump body on stick-like legs, big black eyes and tusks. The Vietnam Mouse-Deer, as it was commonly called, had a love of water and nostrils that pointed up. Today, this cutie is on the top 25 “most wanted” species in the world as classified by The Global Wildlife Conservation group. Daniel Craig (007) is an activist of this group and I would recommend watching the video where a turtle pees on him. 👌🐢
Overall, it's unclear whether this adorable animals is still alive. We can only hope, as nature needs it's weirdos
This episode is a special one as it is our first brush with Bigfoot. Taking the beast step by step and looking at the evidence in snack sized chunks, we start with the Murphysboro Mud Monster.
WHAT IS IT
We all know the classic Bigfoot iconography. He's big, bulky and bipedal. Somewhere between ape and human, shaggy fur covers his entire body, thinning only at the extremities of the face. Standing around 7 ft tall, the Murphysboro Mud Monster is unique in one way though. He is covered in a cream-white hair that is often covered up with clotted mud and sewage run off. Yum.
Folklore in the are around bigfoot is rich and dense, beautiful and fascinating. It deserves more attention than can be provided in this section and so we will be dedicating a whole special episode to Sasquatch folklore in the future. Stay tuned. 😉
This is where things get juicy. As we are focusing on the Murphysboro Mud Monster, we will be isolating sightings to the specific time and place that his reign of terror occured. Think 1973 and Murphusboro, Illinois.
The main monster endemic boils down to four key sightings.
The delicious details are debated in the episode, including the accompanying police reports that Megan uncovered.
25th June 1973
Young forbidden love is interrupted by a menacing monster. Randy and Judy risk all to report their encounter and when police arrived to survey the scene, it gets wild. Witness sketches and photographs are taken at the scene.
26th June 1973
Two sightings within ten minutes of themselves cement the occurrence in the minds of Murphysboro. A big, white ghost reported by a small boy and more young lovers interrupted by the creature. Again police reports and sketches are made of what was seen.
7th July 1973
Carnival folk wave down patrol officers to report the beast repeatedly investigating their tiny ponies. Four men come forth to describe what they have seen. Descriptions of the creature remain consistent throughout.
